Activities


Detailed rules for all Community Games activities are available in the National Community Games website's Activity Rules document. The Louth Community Games programme currently includes five activities - Art, Athletics, Handwriting, Swimming and Table Quiz. A summary of the rules for these activities follows.


ART

The Art competition is for Boys and Girls in the Under 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 age groups, with the appropriate age group being determined by the competitor’s age on 31st July in the year of competition. Children must be at least 6 years old on 31st July to take part in the Under 8 age group.


ATHLETICS

The various athletics events are listed below, with the appropriate age group being determined by by the athlete’s age on 31st July in the year of competition. Children must be at least 6 years old on 31st July to take part in the Under 8 age group.

Athletes can only enter one individual competition in the County Finals and 1st place only qualifies for the National Finals. Each relay team consists of four runners who participate in the race, with two additional subs also permitted. All members of each relay team must live in the same Community Games area.


HANDWRITING

The Handwriting competition is for Boys and Girls in the Under 10 and 12 age groups, that is aged 11 or younger on 31st July in the year of competition. This competition involves copying a passage out of a book. The winning boy and the winning girl in each age group qualify for the National Finals.


SWIMMING

The various swimming events are listed below, with the appropriate age group being determined by by the swimmer’s age on 31st July in the year of competition. Children must be at least 6 years old on 31st July to take part in the Under 8 age group.

Boys & Girls Under 16 4x50m Medley Squad Panel of 6 (4 to swim + 2 subs)

Swimmers can only enter one individual competition in the County Finals and 1st place only qualifies for the National Finals. Each squad consists of four swimmers who participate in the race, with two additional subs also permitted. All members of each squad must live in the same Community Games area.

Those who qualify for the National Finals must pay an additional compulsory fee of 25 euro on the day of County qualification. A copy of the swimmer's birth certificate is also required.


TABLE QUIZ

This is for mixed teams of young people, all of whom must be in the Under 14 age group, that is aged 13 or younger on 31st July in the year of competition. Each team consists of four people who participate in the quiz, with two additional subs also permitted. All members of each team must live in the same Community Games area.

This is a general knowledge quiz, but some of the questions will have a Community Games theme. There are prizes for the top three teams in the county and the winning team qualifies for the National Finals.
